Product Search Settings

Available with ecommerce search

This is a Product Search feature, available only on ecommerce (Content + Product Search) projects. To use it, explore ecommerce search, start a trial, or contact support.

On an ecommerce project, the General tab is headed Product Search. The Language, Spelling Correction, Search Snippet, and Clear Search Cache settings work exactly as described under Content Search Settings. Only the product-specific differences are covered below.

Product Search Fuzziness

The fuzziness controls for an ecommerce project are:

  • General Search Fuzziness — controls how strictly product search terms are interpreted, using the same six-level scale as Content Search Fuzziness.
  • Number Search Fuzziness — strictness for numeric queries, from 0 to 25%. For example, whether a search for a 15" display size should also return products listed as 15.5" and 14.5".

The General Search Fuzziness level also changes how products are matched by article number, category, and description:

LevelProduct matching behavior
StrictAn exact article-number match shows only that product — with A123 and A123-4, the query A123 returns only the first. A query matching a category returns only products in that category, ignoring partial title matches from other categories ("usb drive" returns USB drives, not "usb drive adapter").
DefaultArticle numbers behave as in Strict, but when no exact match exists — e.g. only A123-4 and A123-5 for A123 — both are returned.
Even more resultsFull and partial article-number matches are returned (A123 returns both A123 and A123-4). If nothing matches in categories or titles, product descriptions are checked.
Get most resultsAs "Even more results", plus: if nothing matches in categories or titles, the query is permuted and those variations are checked against product descriptions.

Product Variants

Group products that come in multiple versions (sizes, colors) into a single result. See Product Variants.

Check Update Validity

Blocks any index update that would reduce your total indexed count by more than 30%, preventing accidental large-scale content loss. See Update Validity Safeguard.

New Article Number Searcher

Turns on the updated article-number search (labeled Enable New Article Number Search in the Control Panel). Configure how article numbers and SKUs are matched — match logic, partial-match type, and stop conditions — on the Article Number Settings tab.

Number Formatting

Choose whether numbers in your search results use a dot or a comma as the decimal separator.

Minimize Decimal Places

Reduce decimal places, e.g. from 10.50 to 10.5.
