Navigational Query Filters

This is a Product Search feature, available only on ecommerce (Content + Product Search) projects. To use it, explore ecommerce search, start a trial, or contact support.

Navigational Query Filters (also called category-dependent filters) let you show a different set of filters for each product category, instead of using one global filter configuration everywhere. For example, show size and color filters when a visitor browses Clothing, but screen size and storage filters under Electronics.

Each configuration maps one or more categories to the filters — and custom filter groups — that should appear when a visitor browses or searches within them. Open the Navigational Query Filters tab in Filters and Sorting to set them up.

Create a configuration​

Select Create Navigational Query Filter and choose how to start:

  • Start with empty settings — build the filter set from scratch.
  • Start with a copy of global filters — begin from your Global Filter Settings and adjust from there.

Then:

  1. Select categories. Assign one or more product categories to the configuration — at least one is required.
  2. Add filters. Choose which filter attributes appear for these categories, and optionally organize them into Custom Filter Groups, each with a set position.
  3. Save the configuration.

Assign each category to a single configuration. The Control Panel warns you when a category is already used by another configuration, and you can turn on Hide categories already used by other configurations to keep the category picker focused.

Copy global filter settings​

At any point you can pull in your global configuration with Copy global filter settings. Filters that also exist globally are updated to match the global settings; filters not present globally are left unchanged. Filter order and pin status are not affected.

Manage configurations​

  • Category-tree view — assign and review configurations across your catalog. The tree shows which categories have products, which are empty, and which are disabled.
  • Show in category tree — toggle whether a configuration appears in the category tree.
  • Duplicate a configuration to reuse it for a similar category.
  • Bulk add or remove filters across many configurations at once, choosing the target filter group and position.
  • Edit in a new tab, or delete configurations individually or in bulk.
